The Brief
It was an honour to work with the wonderful team at Neflix on this two part interntal production. Part one would be a 5 minute animation with a wide cast of characters, whilst Part two would incorporate animated titles and supers across 5 live action films.

The Solution
The challenge was striking the right tone between playfully abstract and informative, ensuring the style carried through across the animated & live action films. We stayed away from literal interpretaions and embraced metaphors in the storytelling, and found a balanced design language that could be carried throughout both parts of the project.
The trailer below is a cut-down of the end result, stripped of voiceover for confidentiality.

The Process
We set to work on the story, using symbols and analogy to convey a complex subject matter in a respectful tone, with plenty of warmth and a touch of quirkyness on top. Once we nailed down the story in its animatic form, the design phase began.

The design team focused on the cast of characters first. A diverse group of characters, pushing shapes and proportions. Textured brushwork emphasied a human touch, warm colours kept it inviting. Artwork approved, the animation team could get started.

The Results
With so many moving parts to this project, cohesion was key. We set to work translating the design aesthetic of the characterful animated world of Part 1 to the text & abstract world for Part 2, the live action films. We carried over the colours, textures, and small details to each live action film, alongside animated borders, lower thirds, and media containers that tied it all together. A two-part project, two different mediums, one universe.
